What is Integrity?

By Definition: in·teg·ri·ty [in-teg-ri-tee]

1. Steadfast adherence to a strict moral or ethical code.
2. The state of being unimpaired; soundness.
3. The quality or condition of being whole or undivided.

As you live your life, do you live with integrity?

Do you live like this moment in time is ‘all for you’ with no moral consequence for your actions after you are gone?

…. or do you live like what you do matters?

I love music. I used to download my music from P2P file sharing sites.

Then one day, on a totally unrelated matter, I decided I wanted to live my life with more integrity. I did not want to cheat on my taxes – not that I had a particular problem with that, but wanted to make sure everything was legal on the ‘up and up.

I wanted to make sure I was being ethical in my dealings with people… with family and friends and strangers.

What I discovered was, that for many of us, the temptation to skimp out on integrity is a monetary struggle.

So when it came to downloading music, I found it difficult to give up the use of music file sharing.

For the most part, if you don’t pay for your music downloads, you are stealing from the person who created them. They may or may not have a recording contract with a record company. If they do, then you are also stealing from the record company who as invested in the song writer or musician.

If course, if an artist is freely offering their music for download from their official website, then download to your heart’s content. But these special circumstances are few and far between.

In my research, I have found eMusic to be the best legal music site in terms of quantity and price.

iTunes is the dominant force in legal music downloads today, but you will need to pay for each song individually.
